Ongoing Liver Cancer Research :
Clinical Programs
At the community level historically there have been limited avenues for clinical research. Academic institutions have been the sole sites for implementation of clinical trials. I am very interested in helping bring trials of screening, surveillance, and liver cancer treatment protocols to our area.
The American College of Surgeons Oncology Group (ACOSOG) has developed the central structure to facilitate trial development at the community level. While I am devoting most of my time to the clinical management of patients, I am also working with individuals in our community to allow us to participate in clinical trials with ACOSOG.
Effective care of the patient with diseases such as liver cancers demands the development of a proactive programmatic approach within regional centers. As well as working with regional physicians to ensure that the patient is diagnosed as early as possible and referred on while the chances for success are high. These efforts are high on my priority list of things to be accomplished in the area of liver cancer research here in north Georgia.
